In 2003, Acoustic
Guitar magazine sponsored its first cruise. This was a cruise of the western
Caribbean.
What a treat! Every night was a concert featuring one
of the
pros: Peppino D'Agostino, Happy Traum, Scott Nygaard,
David Lusterman, and David Hamburger. The finale was
a concert featuring us. Great dinner conversation with
other
guitar players,
great food, great classes, and great workshops. Every
night was a jam—and a chance to meet other guitar
players.
In 2004, Acoustic Guitar magazine, emboldened by the great success of the previous cruise,
dared to follow up with a second cruise. This was a cruise of the eastern
Caribbean. While the first cruise was a hard act to follow, the second
cruise proved to be a worthy successor. Having been on the 2003 cruise, my expectations were high - I was not
disappointed. The pros from the previous curise were joined
by Catherine Berry and Wendy Waldman, both of whom were outstanding.
While I didn't get any pictures from the 2003 cruise (too busy playing guitar
and listening to others) some others have donated have
graciously donated a few photos. There is a link to more
photos at the bottom. There are also some photos that I took in 2004.
2003 Barry Goold and John Williams entertain us at the
final evening concert. The level of playing was amazing. |

2003 Dinner
would last until 10:30, followed by Jam sessions
in one of the lounges. You could hear everything
from Joplin to John Hurt. Here, I play Jobim. |
2003 Here are the pros. From left, David Hamburger,
Scott Nygaard, Happy Traum, David Lusterman, and
Peppino D'Agostino. |
